The Prodigy’s Keith Flint Dead at 49
Keith Flint, frontman with British electronic band the Prodigy, was found dead at his home in Essex, England, multiple sources have confirmed.
The 49-year-old’s body was discovered by Essex Police following a phone call earlier this morning. “We attended and, sadly, a 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene," a spokesman told the Guardian. "His next of kin have been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
“The news is true," bandmate Liam Howlett said on Instagram. "I can’t believe I’m saying this, but our brother Keith took his own life over the weekend. I’m shell-shocked, fuckin' angry, confused and heartbroken. RIP, brother.”
Flint was a co-founder of the Prodigy, though his original role had been as a live dancer. His punk and rock elements became a trademark of the band's output. In 1996 he fronted them for two hit singles, “Firestarter” and “Breathe,” from their third album The Fat of the Land, which arrived the following year and reached No. 1.
"I am kind of a court jester meets asylum escapee,” Flint told Matt Blake in an interview connected with the band's 2015 LP The Day Is My Enemy. “I sometimes describe myself as like a hallway in a house: You think you’re inside, but there’s another door to the real me. I’ll sit and wait like a predator and then I will cut you down. I will fucking cut you down to the ground.”
The Prodigy were preparing for a run of tour dates starting next month that included North American appearances in May. Their latest album, No Tourists, came out in November.
