At their D23 Expo panel, Marvel focused on just a handful of film projects. They showed footage from Black Widow, they hyped Black Panther II and revealed the movie’s official release date. And they brought out the cast of Eternals, next fall’s huge new Marvel movie based on the classic Jack Kirby comics. In attendance at D23 were Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, Brian Tyree Henry, and Kumail Nanjiani. And although he wasn’t in attendance, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige also revealed a huge bit of casting news: Kit Harington of Game of Thrones is joining the movie. And they revealed what character he was playing too.

Kevin Feige revealed that Kit Harington stars in Eternals as “Dane Whitman.” Marvel fans know Dane Whitman best as Black Knight, a longtime figure of the Marvel Comics universe, as well as an occasional Avenger. What that means for the character’s future remains to be seen, but Black Knight’s schtick — he’s basically a modern knight, sometimes with a magical sword that also carries a curse, sometimes with a winged horse, sometimes with a cool laser sword that looks like a lightsaber — is pretty well-suited for a guy who just spent eight seasons on Game of Thrones. At the very least, the fight scenes should be a piece of cake.

Eternals opens in theaters on November 6, 2020.
