Learn About Construction Trades In Free ‘Hands On’ Event October 17

There's a special, free event coming to the Northland on Monday, October 17. It's being hosted by local trade unions and the goal is to educate people about the trades and offer real hands-on experience.

It takes place in Eveleth at the Curling Club at 901 Hatrick Avenue on Monday, October 17 from 5:30-7 pm. Iron Range Construction Night is hosted by 218Trades in Partnership with Construct Tomorrow Planning Team, and Area Union Trades Sponsors.

Everyone is welcome to attend, and there is no cost. Employers will be on hand to discuss opportunities in the trades. What makes this event different than similar events, is that there will be hands-on demonstrations where you can try some of the work involved with the trades. People interested in working in the trades can find out more information about getting into a union apprenticeship program.

Dave Cook, Career Counselor with 218Trades says this is a unique event where you can actually get a great idea of the work involved.

Often events like this are simply visiting with people, but Construction Night on Monday the 17th is 100% hands on for people to try each of the trades.

Dave continues that it's a great opportunity to earn a living wage so you can support your lifestyle in North East Minnesota.

A career in the trades can support you, your family, and the things you love to do with your time in Northeast Minnesota! Just because you have a record, bumps in the road, or a rough go of it, you can still join the trades and start an apprenticeship leading you to the journey person status.

Organizers also encourage Women, Native Americans, and other BIPOC communities to attend construction night to learn about the many opportunities. The construction trades are focused on accessibility and inclusion in this career field.
