The Mosquito and Tick season is upon us, but how bad will 2021 be? This new forecast doesn't give us great news.

According to Pest.org we can expect and above average year for both mosquitoes and ticks. They say that we can expect both pests to start showing up in late-April to early-May and both can stick around until October.

We all know that mosquitoes love water for breeding, especially standing water, and the forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of having a warmer and wetter summer which could lead to an increase in the flying, blood sucking pests.

Same for ticks, due to the forecasted warmer and wetter summer, and the heat is expected to last into September and October which has the potential to extend the stay of the tick this year into late October.

Both insects are more than just pests, they both have the ability to make people sick and even cause death. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that mosquitoes can spread West Nile virus, dengue, among other viruses. Ticks can of course give a bite recipient Lyme disease which can cause fever, rash, facial paralysis, and more. As you can see by this CDC map, both Minnesota and Wisconsin hot spots Lyme disease.

The Centers for Disease Control says that using repellents like DEET, Oil of lemon eucalyptus, others can help keep ticks and mosquitoes away from you, and always remember to check and clean your clothes after being in an area where ticks could be, and be sure to also check your body.
