Minnesota Timberwovles Fire President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas
Well, that didn't last too long.
Minnesota Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas has been let go by the team, just over two years after being brought aboard in the role.
Rosas was hired in May of 2019, looking to construct a more successful future for a franchise riddled by frustration and disappointment for most of its existence.
In a statement issued by Timberwolves and Lynx owner Glen Taylor, it was simply stated the team is parting ways with Rosas with a remaining commitment to build a winning team for fans.
“Today, the Minnesota Timberwolves parted ways with President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas. As an organization, we remain committed to building a winning team that our fans and city can be proud of.”
The information of Rosas' firing apparently wasn't received very well by Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns, who simply had three letters to share in a tweet shortly after the news broke.
As of the time of this post, none of the other big names on the team have offered public comment on social media.
The news comes as the team continues to navigate a wealth of changes including Chris Finch joining the team earlier this year as head coach and a phased shift in ownership from Glen Taylor to Marc Lore and retired baseball star Alex Rodriguez.
Senior Lead NBA Writer for The Athletic reported that the team is promoting Vice President Sachin Gupta tor replace Rosas as head basketball operations, at least on an interim basis.
Shams's coworker at The Athletic, Jon Krawczynski, reiterated that there is a strong likelihood that Gupta is not the new permanent person for this role as the new ownership explores the best path for the future of their new team.
The Timberwolves open their 2021-2022 preseason on October 4 at Target Center against New Orleans. The regular season kicks off at home against the Houston Rockets October 20 in Minneapolis.
