Minnesota Wild Fall to the Los Angeles Kings in Home Opener [PHOTOS]

The Minnesota Wild opened the 2013-14 season with their 1st loss in franchise history in home openers. Their record is now 11-0-1 in home openers. The Wild lit the red lamp just 64 seconds into the contest when a centering pass from Kyle Brodziak went off of teammate Matt Cooke's skate and slide through the crease and past Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Quick.

Drew Doughty got the Kings on the board at 7:40 of the 1st period tying the game at 1 apiece. Nino Niederreiter gathered a loose puck near the right boards and skated to the middle while backhanding a pass to Jonas Brodin who's quick shot beat Quick on his upper glove side to put the Wild up 2-1 late in the 1st period.

There was no scoring in the 2nd period.

Jeff Carter scored the tying goal at 13:14 in the 3rd period. And the was how the game ended through regulation. The Wild and Kings skated a scoreless brief 4 on 4 five minute overtime which takes us to the 1st shoot out on the season.

In the shootout Jonathan Quick stoned Zach Parise' backhand attempt. Anze Kopitar then beat Niklas Backstrom with a 13 foot wrister for the 1 goal in the shoot out. On the next Wild's next attempt, Mikko Koivu missed the net on a wrist shot. Jeff Carter raised the game winning backhand past a sprawling Niklas Backstrom for a 3-2 shootout win for the Los Angeles Kings.

Quick made 27 saves on 29 attempts for the Kings and Niklas Backstrom stopped 16 of 18 attempts for the Wild. The Kings were 1 of 3 on the power play while the Wild were 1 of 5 on the power play. The Wild had 29 shots on goal and the Kings had just 18.
