MN Officer Arik Matson Who Was Shot In Line Of Duty Is Going Home
The Waseca Police Department has shared news that officer Arik Matson is returning to his home in Minnesota. He had been received rehabilitation care at a facility in Omaha, Nebraska after being shot in the line of duty.
Back in January, Tyler Janovksy was charged with the shooting according to WCCO. Matson was responding to a call of a suspicious person in the neighborhood when he was shot in the head. Miraculously Matson survived the shooting but has had a long road of recovery and rehabilitation.
The Waseca Police Department posted to their Facebook page that he will be returning to his home in Minnesota on Monday, October 9. They are inviting the public to welcome him home beginning around noon. An escort of emergency vehicles will drive him past the public so he can see all of those people who came to support him.
They ask the public to practice social distancing measures and line State Street (highway 13) to cheer him on. They also have wristbands people can wear to show support available at the Waseca Police Department.
An update in July on his GoFundMe page talks about how Arik has been making progress in his recovery and just wants to be home with his family. He was even able to write letters back and forth to his daughters. Arik now will get his wish this Monday, along with a hero's welcome.
