Yesterday I attended the ceremony for Duluth Police K-9 officer Haas.  Him and his partner officer Haller were shot while in the line of duty protecting the Twin Ports on January 13th 2019, Haas did not survive.

The ceremony honoring his bravery and life protecting other officers was an emotional one.  Law enforcement from all over the state were in attendance to show their support for the Duluth Police Department, Haas, officer Haller, and his family.  In attendance were also many members of our community, just regular people from the general public who support law enforcement.

Besides Haas being a hero, I wanted to focus a bit on the turnout at this ceremony.  We live in a time where social media has painted such negative pictures of our law enforcement officers across the country.  These officers go out to work every day trying to make our world a better place not knowing if it will be their last day alive, willing to make the ultimate sacrifice.  The support shown by the public at this event shows what the internet doesn't always, that our officers do have backing by a lot of people, while a sad event, it made me smile because of that.

Warm and happy thoughts to the Haller family going forward, and one more big shout out to Haas for being a true hero and saving the day on January 13th, 2019.
