MnDOT Shares Innovative Ice Breaker Tool
MnDOT is showing off its most impressive tool to combat ice and snow compacted roads.
This ice breaker attachment for plow trucks was designed from an idea from the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities and is now working on Minnesota roads to keep them safe during the winter months.
The carbide-tipped ice breaker rollers are attached to the front of the truck and a blade is placed in the middle of the truck to clear the road. To work effectively MnDOT says that the truck needs to move slowly, so they urge drivers to give the trucks room to work.
