The powerful April storm that has whipped up strong winds through the day on Saturday now looks to bring dangerous winter conditions, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a winter storm warning effective from 7 pm Saturday through 7 am Monday morning.

What To Expect

This winter storm will bring the Twin Ports area heavy snow, accompanied by windy conditions that will make travel difficult during the day on Sunday and overnight Sunday night. Duluth and Superior are in the middle of a gradient of snow that spans from 18-24 inches of snow possible in the Ashland/Bayfield area to 2-3 inches possible in the Grand Rapids area. The Twin Ports could see 6-10 inches, with some locally higher amounts possible. The windy conditions off Lake Superior could influence snowfall totals near the lake and lead to drifting snow. The combined snow and wind will make travel very difficult and dangerous in some areas around the region It would be wise to avoid travel if possible, and if you must head out, be sure you have a winter survival kit in and warm clothing with you.
