Fresh off his first NL MVP award, Milwaukee Brewers’ star outfielder Ryan Braun is in hot water after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug, and he could be hit with a 50-game suspension at the start of the 2012 campaign. Braun maintains that he’s innocent of the charge.

“We are dealing with an incomplete set of facts and speculation. Before there is a rush to judgment, Ryan deserves the right to be heard. We are committed to supporting Ryan to get to the truth of what happened in this unfortunate situation,” said the Brewers in a statement.

Braun believed that the test gave a false positive, and after requesting a second test, Braun showed he was clean. No reigning MVP has ever been suspended for a positive drug test so there’s no telling whether Braun will be subject to losing his award if he’s found guilty of the charge. It would also damage his squeaky clean image that has turned him into a favorite among NL fans.
