See Something Strange On Wisconsin Roads? DOT Is Testing Paint Markings This Summer

Although it might look a little strange, it's not a mistake.  And no, the painting machine didn't get away from someone.  If you happen to encounter a weird set of paint stripes on a Wisconsin highway this summer, it really does belong there.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is testing pavement markings this summer as part of their ongoing efforts to maintain roadways and keep drivers safe.  The end goal is to see how the different types of paint, applications, and design-elements hold up to the weather and real time traffic wear and tear. They're also determining what types of paint display or show up better in various weather conditions.

WISDOT took to their social media sites to promote the testing process and alert drivers.

The spotlighted pavement marking test site is located on U.S. Highway 12 near Prairie du Sac in Wisconsin.  However, the state agency is always looking for different evaluation sites and their tests could occur just about anywhere in the state.

WISDOT has partnered with the National Transportation Product Evaluation Program (NTPEP) for the process.  While WISDOT's role is in its home state, the test and evaluation program is part of a multi-state effort to improve roadways across the nation.
