A popular school messaging app that is used by area schools including Duluth and Superior is dealing with an issue of nude images being sent to parents.

Seesaw is an app used by schools and teachers to communicate with parents and it is currently dealing with an issue of messages being sent to parents that include a link to a nude image.

Seesaw first reported the issue to its users early in the morning of September 14th and took immediate action, "We take this incident extremely seriously. We’ve turned OFF Messages temporarily for all users while we investigate, to prevent further spread of this image from being sent or seen by any Seesaw users."

They found that some user accounts were hacked in what Seesaw says was a "coordinated credential stuffing attack", once the hackers gained control of the accounts they began sending out the link to the nude image from those accounts to other users.

Seesaw says that only a limited number of accounts were compromised in the attack and only a handful of those was used before Seesaw blocked the attack. All the accounts that were hacked were notified and their passwords were reset.

As of this morning, Seesaw says it has turned all its messaging services back on and will continue to monitor the situation. They are warning that in rare cases the image may be cached within your device or web browser and they gave some help on how to deal with that here.

Seesaw was founded in 2013 and currently has a userbase of over 10 million teachers, students, and parents across the United States and is used in more than 75% of schools.
