Get ready for additional lane closures on I-35 near the Twin Ports Interchange Project.  Officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation are working to get the word out about a month-long set of daily closures that will occur within that busy stretch of the highway.

According to the details shared by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, drivers should expect right lane closures on the southbound lanes of I-35 in that area where work is being done on the Twin Ports Interchange Project.  Specifically, those lane closures will happen between Garfield Avenue and 24th Avenue West.

The closures are needed by MNDOT in order to allow for the delivery of materials to the Miller Hill/Coffee Creek inlet area.

While the lane closures won't be in place around the clock, the Minnesota Department of Transportation is suggesting that they will occur on a regular, daily basis.  Signs and message boards will be placed on site to help alert drivers to the changing conditions.

Now that the weather is changing and the summer road construction season is just around the corner, drivers should anticipate more noticeable changes to the work zone near the Twin Ports Interchange Project (Can of Worms).  Crews were on site all winter long, but there was a variety of items on the punch-list that require nicer weather and a ground that's thawed.

Work will continue throughout the summer on this multi-year project. Total cost is estimated to be around $343 million. The timetable shows that the majority of the work will be completed by the end of the 2023 road construction season, however work on the Lower Michigan connection is expected to continue into mid-2024.

Once again, the Minnesota Department of Transportation expects that these southbound lane closures for I-35 should be wrapped up by the end of May.
