St. Louis County Moves To Allow Short Term Rentals
The St. Louis County Board recently made two changes to their zoning ordinances - both aimed at the issue of short term rentals. At the the February 25 meeting, the board moved to change its zoning ordinances to allow for short term rentals ; at the same time, the board also moved to regulate them in a way that protects the safety of visitors and protects the rights of neighboring property owners.
The efforts stem from the recent popularity of VRBO and Airbnb's. This change to the zoning ordinance will allow property owners to rent out their structures on a short-term basis to paying tenants. The increased regulations also aim to maintain the integrity of the properties in question. According to information released by St. Louis County, they feel that with "requiring appropriate permitting with performance standards, and setting requirements for septic, parking and posting of rules, the goal is to ensure a safe experience for guests, and minimal disruption to neighbors and the environment".
