It's one of the areas of the facility that wasn't replaced with the new building.  When the Superior School District constructed the new High School Building around (and over) the existing one, parts of the old building were incorporated into the new facility.  The Performing Arts Center (or PAC) - the theater - was one of those areas that remains.

But just because the wing wasn't replaced as part of that major project a couple of years ago, doesn't mean that it doesn't need a little facelift.

As it exists, the Performing Arts Center has been largely untouched for the last 30 years.  That's about to change.

At their meeting on May 2, the Superior School Board moved to advance plans to renovate the seating area.  According  to details shared in the Superior Telegram [paywall], those "seats and carpeting haven't been replaced in 30 years".  And, newly-elected Board Vice President Steve Olson says that "work is....long overdue".

The work will be performed this summer. On the docket will be new carpeting, seats, and paint.

Bids have already been accepted.  That article in the Telegram details how only one contracting company - Johnson's Carpet and Tile - turned in a bid for the carpeting part of the project; that bid was for $106,120.

Meanwhile, the board decided to take a higher bid for the seats - one that will bring a familiar brand and style.  Two bids were submitted for new seating, with JWC Building Specialties, Inc. being the highest of the two at $156,000.  The board decided to accept that bid largely because it would include Irwin brand seats; the current seats in the Performing Arts Center are Irwin, and board members determined that the "higher quality product....made in the USA" has lasted a long time (30 years), making a replacement decision a little easier.

Again, work will be taken care of during the summer months, with an expected timeline of wrapping up by the time the 2022-2023 school year starts in the fall.
