The 12th annual Love Your Local Artist event has been organized by the Superior Public Library.  While usually scheduled as a live, in-person evening of socializing, the current COVID-19 pandemic has required that it be held as a virtual component for the second year in a row.

The purpose of the Love Your Local Artist event is two-fold:  It shines the spotlight on those local artists that live in our area and provides fundraising and awareness opportunities for the Superior Public Library.  In past years these artists have not only displayed their pieces but also offered select ones for sale; this year, the artists have donated their work for an online auction, with all auction proceeds going to support library programs, services, and materials.

Bidding is open right now and will last through the month of February.  The library has an online catalog available that lets you browse the pieces and place your bids.

In addition, the library has also utilized their social media platforms to get the word out and display some of the unique items up for bid.

Browsing through the catalog, you'll find a wide variety of different art mediums to choose from - from antiques to clothing, jewelry and watches to photography, even pottery and glass items.  Each of them comes from the studios of local artists in the community.

On the library's website, they have also provided links to these artists who maintain websites of their own, so you can learn more about their them, their art, and - in some cases - buy other pieces for your own collection.

Library administrators hope that the Love Your Local Artist event can go back to an in-person evening next year.  Historically, it's been scheduled for a Friday evening in February, with wine, refreshments, live music, silent auctions, art for sale, and more.
