Superior Organizations Can Apply For Marketing Grant Money

Sometimes you have to spend some money to make money.  This is especially true when it comes to marketing and special events.

The unfortunate part of that equation is that all too often the organizations that put together these community-style events tend to be non-profit.  And even if they are for-profit, they don't often have the sort of startup funds available that would easily accommodate the budgetary costs involved.

A new grant program established by the Superior City Council aims to provide some relief and solutions to the process.

The Superior Tourism Development Commission rolled out the details of a new grant program.  According to an article in the Superior Telegram [paywall], it's a continuation of a program that had recently ended.  The new Commission Chairperson - Lindsey Graskey - championed the need for the funding.  The former program - when ended May 12 - had "awarded several thousands of dollars to area groups to help promoted events that included the Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival, Ice Festival, and others".

By providing the funding for marketing, the Commission hopes to boost the local economy.  Graskey explains:

"We know for certain that visitors come to Superior for these special events and most stay in our hotels and rental properties,generating more room tax for promotion."

And while there are eligibility stipulations, the funding can be used in a variety of different ways by the organizations applying:

"Eligible expenses include digital marketing, print and broadcast ads, direct mail, publicity and billboards.  The grants will be funded through a portion of the room tax the city collects from hotels, motels, and vacation rentals."

To apply for the grant, you need to visit the City of Superior's website to start the application process.  Here is a direct link to the form.  All applications need to be received by the first day of the month, and must be submitted at least 90 days prior to the first day of the advertising that will be paid for using the funds.
