Superior Schools To Start In ‘Hybrid Model’ Unless Conditions Change

It's an answer - at least while current conditions warrant.  The School District of Superior School Board approved the COVID-19 District Response Plan for the 2020-2021 school year at their meeting on Monday, July 20. According to a letter released by District Administrator Amy Starzecki, "[b]ased on current conditions and guidance from public health, [Superior schools] would start the school year in a hybrid model".

At the meeting, school board members prepped the district for three scenarios based on the "Education Forward" plan that has been released by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Those scenarios are all-virtual, hybrid, or all in-person learning.  The decision to move between scenarios is a collaborative decision between the District and public health officials.

The plan shares these details about the hybrid model:

"This scenario is a blend of on-site and virtual learning. This model would allow for social distancing in school, teacher preparation and falls within district
budget parameters."

Starzecki's letter goes on to say:

"While the District is in the hybrid model, families will still have the option to choose to do all virtual learning. Due to the significant implications for staffing, we will be asking families to choose which option they plan to use to begin the school year. Sign up is due August 5. After the school year begins, the District will survey all families to gather feedback on their selected learning option to determine if adjustments are needed."
