The first Taco Bell to serve alcohol in Wisconsin is now open for business. It is called Taco Bell Cantina, but unlike some of the other restaurants they only serve beer and wine. The restaurant is on State Street in Madison which is one of the most popular streets in the entire city.

According to WMTV this was no easy task getting a liquor license for the restaurant. It took years of back and forth negotiating between owner Flynn Restaurant Group and the City of Madison to agree on issuing a liquor license for the Taco Bell on State Street.

While it’s the first of its kind in Wisconsin, there are already Taco Bell Cantinas in Chicago, Austin, New York, Atlanta and San Francisco. It does make sense to have the  first one in Wisconsin be in Madison of all places. Now there are some special conditions in place: Taco Bell Cantina will only serve alcohol Mondays – Thursdays from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 11 p.m. And, most of these Cantinas do not have a drive-thru. I guess only time will tell if more of these start popping up around the country?
