Here are some of highlights in local sports action from yesterday:

  • The UWS Volleyball team beat St. Scholastica Volleyball team in a border battle on Tuesday night 3 games to 1.  The ‘Jackets are now 12-2 on the year and the Saints fall to 5-7 overall.  UWS won, 25-12, 25-14 and 25-18.
  • The UMD volleyball team, ranked 3rd in the country beat St. Cloud State on Tuesday night 3 games to 1.  The Bulldogs are now 3-0 in the conference and   12-0 overall.  Junior Kate Lange has won back to back Player of the Week honors in the NSIC and added to that on Tuesday when she was named the National Division Two Player of the Week as well. She had 50 kills in two UMD wins over the weekend to earn the honors.
  • The Superior girls high school swimming and diving team won a key Lake Superior Conference swim meet with Proctor-Hermantown on Tuesday night 53-40.  The Spartans are the 3-time defending Conference champions.
  • At the 17 team Barron Invite on Tuesday in Cross-Country:  Hayward boys CC team placed 4th overall led by Martin Coulondre.  The Hayward girls team was 7th overall and led by senior Chelsea Tremblay.
