Tone’s Taco Seasoning Recall
A popular brand of taco seasoning sold at Sam's Club is involved in a nationwide recall effort. B&G Foods has announced that they are voluntarily recalling select cases of their 23-ounce Tone's Taco Seasoning Blend, which is primarily sold at Sam's Club locations and via Sam's Club's online store.
The recall currently affects 3,867 cases, which have "best by" dates of SEPT 03 24 and SEPT 06 24.
At issue is an undeclared allergen concern. According to the United States Food and Drug Administration, these specific bottles of Tone's Taco Seasoning Blend "were mistakenly labeled on the back with the back labels for Tone's Lemon Pepper Seasoning Blend". The taco seasoning blend contains wheat as an ingredient - whereas the lemon pepper seasoning blend doesn't. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat run the risk of serious of life-threatening allergic reactions.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is reporting that there have been no known allergic reactions, medical issues, or consumer complaints related to the Tone's Taco Seasoning Blend at the present time. The recall has been issued as a way of exercising advance caution.
Here are the specifics related to the recall:
- Description: Tone's Taco Seasoning Blend
- Consumer UPC#: 0-41351-91461-5 (The UPC is located on the bottom of the back label, and references the incorrect product)
- Size: 23 ounces (1.43 lb) (653 kg)
- Best By Dates: SEPT 03 24 and SEPT 06 24 (The "Best By" date is located on the bottom of the side of the container)
Customers are being urged to take the time to identify the Tone's products in their cupboards, especially due to the nature of this particular recall. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration details the confusing nature of the recall issue:
"It was determined that 3,867 cases of Tone’s Taco Seasoning Blend, which contain wheat, may contain some individual containers which are mistakenly labeled on the back as Lemon Pepper Seasoning Blend, which does not declare wheat. The product name appears on the top of the front and back label. Containers labeled as Tone’s Taco Seasoning Blend on both the front and back of the container correctly declare the presence of wheat. Containers labeled as Tone’s Taco Seasoning Blend on the front and Lemon Pepper Seasoning Blend on the back do not list wheat as an allergen. Therefore, B&G Foods is issuing this recall for Tone’s Taco Seasoning Blend with the particular UPC and “best by” dates listed [as part of the release information]."
If you have bottles of the Tone's Taco Seasoning Blend in your possession, you're asked to dispose of it. Consumers seeking a refund from the company or who have additional questions should contact B&G Foods at 1-800-247-5251. You can also visit their website for more details; click here.
