U.S. Stuns Brazil with Dramatic Win in Women’s World Cup [VIDEO]
On the brink of elimination, the U.S. women's soccer team needed collective resolve, not a Solo act.
Turns out it got both.
In what's being hailed as an all-time classic, the U.S. pulled off the unthinkable Sunday, rallying late to upend a highly-skilled Brazil squad to advance to the semifinals of the World Cup.
Much to the delight of a packed crowd in Dresden, Germany, the Americans, led by a spectacular effort from goaltender Hope Solo, showed plenty of resolve in a dramatic -- and at times, controversial -- 3-2 win over Brazil.
Despite trailing late in the match, the Americans fended off Brazil and superstar striker Marta to advance one step closer to a berth in the World Cup final thanks to a leaping header by Abby Wambach in the 120th minute of extra time to force penalty kicks and punch a U.S. ticket to the semis.
The U.S. and France meet Wednesday with a date in the final on the line.
