"Cram the Am!" That’s what the UMD Athletic Department wants you to do on Saturday.

The unranked UMD Women’s hockey team, winner of 5 NCAA titles will host 7th ranked Boston University.

And if you haven’t seen Amsoil Arena, Saturday will be your chance, with tickets for just $1.00 if you get them at the UMD ticket office on campus.  Kids will be free, again if you get them up at UMD.  Otherwise tickets will be $3.00 on the day of the game at Amsoil.

UMD has set their highest home attendance records during the NCAA tournaments in which they won NCAA National titles in 2003 and again in 2008.

In 2003 5,167 watched the UMD Women’s hockey team win their third straight NCAA title as they beat Harvard.  And in 2008, 4,031 watched the Bulldogs beat the Badgers for their 4th NCAA title.

They hope to get a huge crowd on Saturday and for a dollar why not?

UMD assistant coach, Steve Macdonald hopes for a big crowd, he said, “Our girl’s are excited for the weekend to be able to play in front of their hometown fans, after being on the road for almost a month, very excited about that.  We are hoping to ‘Cram the Am’ and get a pretty good crowd.”

It will also be the final home series for the Bulldogs before they go on their Christmas break.

Macdonald is in his 2nd season with the Bulldogs and is looking forward to the non-conference games this weekend he has seen his team improving.  He said, “The sweep against Bemidji State and the much needed points in the tough WCHA, so we are happy with the sweep and we are starting to see the hard work in practice and the girls are buying into the team concept which is very positive to see. And carry that through to Boston University this weekend.”

Zoe Hickel, a sophomore forward from the UMD Women’s hockey team was named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday; she had two game winning goals for the Bulldogs in that sweep over BSU.  She said, “Yeah, it was fun, it was a good weekend with the two wins, and we worked hard on the process over outcome and working hard together and knowing how hard we worked with each other to pull off the sweep was huge for us coming into this weekend with Boston University.”

She had two goals and an assist on the weekend and it was UMD’s third straight weekend on the road. Hickel said, “Playing on the road, we’re kind of used to that, it was just one step at a time and at this point we have nothing to lose, and we have to work hard every shift and the goals will come as long as we keep moving our feet. and putting it all out there.”

The UMD women’s hockey team also signed five players for next year. According to the school:
