While Adrian Peterson feels he's ready for some contact on the field, the coaching staff says otherwise.

Peterson has been very optimistic about returning as early as this Friday's game against the San Diego Chargers, but the team's coaches and medical trainers have laid to rest any hopes of a return prior to week 1 of the regular season. Peterson continues to rehab after an injury to his knee in December of last year.

AP had the following to say last week regarding his possible return during the preseason:

I wouldn’t mind getting in for a couple of series just to test it out and see how I do. Personally, to be honest with you, I feel like I’m fine and I’ll be good to go no matter what. But it would be good to get some game action.

While Peterson was removed from the physically unable to perform list and has been participating in some practice activities, the staff doesn't feel comfortable rushing him to the field. Head Coach Leslie Frazier confirmed that he will not make a preseason return today.
