It was a frightening day yesterday on the Iron Range after a shooting took place in the parking lot of the Eveleth Subway. WDIO reported a man shot through a car window and struck another man in the head. The suspect left the scene. The victim in the shooting was transported to a local hospital where he received medical care. A woman was also in the car at the time and she suffered minor injuries she says she sustained after an assault by the suspect.

Police had asked the public for information on the whereabouts of the suspect identified in the shooting, Jamar Maurice Smith. He was considered armed and dangerous. A collaborative effort by the Eveleth Police Department, Virginia Police Department, St. Louis County Sheriff's Department and Minnesota State Patrol began to apprehend the suspect. It was eventually reported that he was in the North Side Neighborhood of Virginia, where authorities converged.

According to the Virginia Police Department's Facebook Page, Smith attempted to flee on foot. That's when they Officer Grivna and his K-9 partner Teddy took chase. Teddy who's full name is Officer Theodore, was deployed and quickly apprehended the shooting suspect.

Jamar Maurice Smith is now in the St. Louis County Jail. According to the roster, he was booked at 7:10 last evening on a felony weapons charge. Back in 2018, Smith had charges against him dismissed in Douglas County, Wisconsin. He had been charged with possession of a firearm by an out of state felon and misdemeanor bail jumping. Those charges were connected with the fatal New Year's Day shooting in Superior where Kyle Androsky was killed. His brother Dave also was shot but survived. The Duluth News Tribune reported that prosecutors said that they did not believe they had proof beyond a reasonable doubt to convict.
