Individuals looking to help make a difference in our community while also assisting those with mental health challenges - here's your chance. St. Louis County is looking for volunteers for their Mental Health Advisory Council.  Participants would provide input on local mental health services for children and adults.

According to advance information provided by the county, the intent of a Local Advisory Council (LAC) is to bring together diverse perspectives on mental health in order to identify resources, changes, additions, and improvements to local mental health services for children and adults.  Getting members of the community together to discuss the issues and collect input helps to identify new and creative ideas.

Officials with St. Louis County need many volunteers for the positions; they're creating two Local Mental Health Advisory Councils - one for the northern part of the county and a second for the southern part; each group will meet individually in their own part of the county.

The first meeting of these councils is scheduled for this October, with approximately nine meetings to be held throughout the year.  Those interested in joining the St. Louis County Local Advisory Council will be asked to commit to fostering an environment that is focused on the values of hope, prevention, wisdom, recovery, dignity, and inclusion.

To get more information and to fill out an application, click here.  Applications must be received by the county by June 30.  Those applications will be reviewed by a team of people who have lived experience with mental illness.  The review will be complete by July and individuals selected will be notified no later than August 14.
