We've had a nice rebound with the weather recently, but because of a cold, harsh spring earlier, the opening of Chippewa National Forest Campground has been delayed for the upcoming season.

According to the USDA Forest Service, the delay is due to due to persisting snow pack hampering preparation that is necessary prior to opening.

According to their press release regarding the delay:

Typically in April, crews prepare campgrounds, all-terrain vehicle, horse and bicycle trails for opening in May. This preparations includes removing hazard trees, cleaning campsite pads and preparing water systems.

Each year, the goal is to have all campgrounds ready to be open to the public for the fishing opener, but Mother Nature simply made that impossible this time.  With a favorable forecast this week, hopefully this delay will be short lived.

You can visit the USDA Forest Service website for updates, or visit their Facebook page for updated information.
