With several Twin Ports hockey players and coaches ending the 2012-2013 season bringing home big awards like the Herb Brooks Award and the Mariucci Award, the most prestigious of high school hockey awards were announced in video form earlier this week.
Duluth Coaches Win Mariucci Award
Head Coach John Randolph of the Duluth East Greyhounds and Kevin Smalley of the Duluth Denfeld Hunters were named winners of the John Mariucci Award during Hockey Championship Weekend in St. Paul.
Lundgren Wins Class AA Herb Brooks Award
Senior forward Ryan Lundgren of the Duluth East Greyhounds joined Hermantown's Chris Benson as a recipient of the 2013 Herb Brooks Award this weekend in St. Paul.
Chris Benson Receives Herb Brooks Award
It was a bittersweet end to to the high school hockey career of Hermantown Hawks forward Chris Benson on Championship Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Benson was named the 2013 Class A Boys recipient of the Herb Brooks Award and he, along with three of his teammates were named to the 2013 All-Tournament Team.
Hawks Fall to Cadets in Championship
For three years in a row, the Hermantown Hawks and St. Thomas Academy Cadets have met in the Class A state hockey championship. Each time, the Hawks fell short. While this year's final score goes in the books as history repeating itself, Hermantown has plenty to be proud of at the end of this year's campaign and lots to look forward to for next season.
East Advances to AA Semifinals
The Duluth East Greyounds went into the state boys hockey tournament on a roll, with 16 straight wins.
Hawks Shut Out Hilltoppers at State
Both returning after tournament appearances last year, Lake Superior Conference rivals Hermantown and Duluth Marshall clashed in the quarterfinal round of the Class A Boys High School Hockey Tournament at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul on Wednesday.

Tom’s Notes: Boys Hockey Tournament Kicks Off Today + More
The Hermantown Hawks were honored Tuesday at the school. They are again bound for the state tournament and Tuesday the Hawks held a send–off for the 3rd seeded team. Travis Koepke leads the Hawks in scoring with 65 points.
Bischoff Wins Reed Larson Award
The Grand Rapids Thunderhawks had a special hockey season this year, hosting Hockey Day in Minnesota and reaching the 7AA title game. Tuesday another honor came their way.
