Vikings All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson was not at practice in Mankato today. Unlike other NFL players being forced to sit out due to new contract rules, Peterson's absence was due to other circumstances.

Peterson left practice yesterday and was not in attendance today so he could be with his fiancée, Ashley Brown, who went into labor Monday. Neither Peterson nor the Vikings have announced when Peterson will return to camp.

Peterson, who is in the last year of his current contract with the Vikings, will undoubtedly be the backbone of the 2011 Vikings offense. With uncertainty surrounding the current wide receiver core and questions about Donovan McNabb's ability to perform after a dismal 2010 season with Washington; "All Day" Peterson is the only sure thing new coach Leslie Frazier has to rely on.
