TSN Hockey insider Pierre LeBrun announced on Twitter that UMD Bulldogs men's hockey coach Scott Sandelin will interview to be head coach of the Anaheim Ducks.

Sandelin has coached the Bulldogs since 2000, leading them to five NCAA Frozen Four appearances and three National Championships, including recent back-to-back titles.

The Canadian website TSN.ca is reporting that other candidates for the job include Dallas Stars assistants Todd Nelson and Rick Bowness, New York Islanders associate coach Lane Lambert and Dallas Eakins, coach of the San Diego Gulls, the Ducks’ AHL affiliate.

If Sandelin were to be offered and come to terms to become a head coach in the NHL, it would be an amazing opportunity for the coach and, of course, a big loss for the UMD Bulldogs.

Time will tell how this all plays out, but either way it shows that the success of the Bulldogs has not been lost on the national media and the NHL.
