Since 1872, citizens of the United States of America have celebrated Arbor Day - a holiday in which people are encouraged to plant trees to replenish the Earth's stock.  Locally, that celebration will occur with an event at Fairlawn Mansion in Superior on Friday, April 26.

The event will kick off promptly at 5:00 PM. Superior Mayor Jim Paine will be on hand with welcoming remarks and the official proclamation.  Afterwards, a brief history of the Arbor Day Celebration and Tree City USA program will be offered.  A Fiesta Sugar Maple tree will be planted on site at 5:20 PM, followed by coffee and cookies.  Then at 6:00 PM, Paul Hlina will make a presentation.  Paul is a botanist at Leaning Pine Narratives.  His speech is entitled "Future Trends for Planting Trees in Douglas County.
