We just closed the book on the locked-shorten NBA season, and we have a new NBA champion(Miami Heat), yet I see a trend brewing in the NBA that would put the Minnesota Timberwolves as champions in three years. There are two ways to either win or "buy" a championship in the NBA. The first way is how the Oklahoma City Thunder have been built, which is building through the NBA draft, also that is how the San Antonio Spurs have been built for the last decade. The second way is how Miami Heat is built, which is to pay for high price talent. Both ways work, but Minnesota is following the Thunder way.

If Minnesota sports fans need something to hope for, they can hope that the Timberwolves will follow Oklahoma City Thunder footsteps, which they might have already started doing that. For one they both have a legitimate MVP candidate named Kevin on their teams (Kevin Durant-Thunder, Kevin Love-T-Wolves). Durant was drafted second overall in 2007, while Love was drafted fifth overall in 2008. The Thunder have a big man who led the NBA in block shots this year in Serge Ibaka, and Minnesota's Nikola Pekovic was second in the NBA in field goal percentage. Also both Ibaka and Pekovic were drafted in the 2008 NBA draft, and were seven picks apart.

The point guard situation has been the problem for the Minnesota Timberwolves for several years, until just this past season when Ricky Rubio decided to play for Minnesota. Rubio quickly stabilized the point, and finished up second in the rookie of the year voting even though he did not play the last month of the season. Rubio was drafted fifth overall in the 2009, while the Thunder have two amazing point guards, but are completely different. Russell Westbrook(drafted fourth overall in 2008, one spot before Love) is a pure scorer, and sometimes gets trigger happy, and forgets that he is not the best player on his team. James Harden(drafted one spot ahead of Rubio in 2009) won the sixth man award this past season, and is a great facilitator for the Thunder coming off the bench.

Not only do the Thunder have a big three, they also have a deep bench. The Timberwolves have a somewhat deep bench, but need to develop players like Wesley Johnson, and Derrick Williams in order to compete with the Thunder in the Western Conference. Rick Adelman, and Scott Brooks have done a great job in coaching their respected teams, and Adelman needs to continue developing the Timberwolves if he hope become a playoff contender next season.

Both T-Wolves, and Thunder are young, explosive, but the one thing Thunder have over the Timberwolves is experience. It took Rubio two whole season to come over here, and play; those two seasons were lost, while Thunder were playing together and making runs in the playoffs. Next seasons we will see the Thunder win the NBA Championship, but keep your eye out for the Timberwolves. They will make the playoffs next season, and in a few seasons claim a championship. In order to do that the Timberwolves need to get pure scoring shooting guard. Minnesota needs a player to take the pressure off of Love, but not get his head to big, and ruin his team like Westbrook did for Oklahoma City last night.

These teams are almost sister teams, both young, developed together, and drafted together. Expect to see a rivalry start up between these two for years to come, because as of right now they look like the two best teams coming out of the Western Conference for the next few season. But mark my word on June, 22nd, 2015 the Minnesota Timberwolves will be having a championship parade in downtown Minneapolis.
