Central Entrance Road Work Starts July 6

A mill and overlay project along one of the busier stretches of road in the Twin Ports will start on Monday, July 6.  Officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation are alerting drivers that they'll be working on Central Entrance during the night-time hours - from 6:30 PM to 6:30 AM.

According to information shared by MNDOT, the work will primarily occur on Central Entrance between Anderson Road and Mesaba Avenue.  During the time that road crews are on site, drivers can expect lane closures; those closed lanes will be open during the daytime however.

The timeline shared by MNDOT shows that they expect the mill and overlay work to be finished pretty quick.  Their estimates show that they anticipate the work to last only two weeks.

For the time being - as the COVID-19 Pandemic response is in place, MNDOT is working hard to adhere to Governor Tim Walz's Stay at Home executive order. Road work has been identified as a Critical Service by the state and will continue on.

Here are some important reminders from MNDOT about safety in regards to this specific project as well as any of the projects you might encounter this summer:

• Slow down when approaching a work zone
• Use caution when navigating through the marked-off work area
• Stay alert - work zones constantly change
• Watch for workers and slow moving equipment
• Obey the posted speed limits. Fine for a violation in a work zone is $300
• Minimize distractions behind the wheel
• Be patient
• Expect delays - especially during peak travel times
