Chicken wings are probably one of my favorite food groups and while they aren't on every food pyramid I've seen, they should be.

I generally try wings at most of the places we eat out at, especially if the server tells me they are great there.  The problem is that too many people don't know what a good chicken wing is.  The taste of wings is subjective of course, and if I'm being a bit bold, my grilled chicken wings are some of the best I've had.  So, I generally have high expectations on wings.

What makes a good wing though?  I've had some banging wings that were deep fried, smoked, grilled, or a combination of those mentioned cooking methods.  From dry rubs to homemade sauces, the options out there are almost endless for flavors and textures.  Also, many places use cheap wings where the bones are break off and the size is way too small to fill you up.  My Queen, Mrs. Danger, turned me on to a place in Oakdale, Minnesota called D-Spot.

D-Spot has other items on their menu like burgers, fries, and other goodies along those lines, but they are known for their wings.  They have plenty of flavors for every palate out there and the wings are sizeable so you're actually getting a decent meal out of not too many.  The wings are deep fried and coated with everything from BBQ, green curry, pesto, and of course your regular buffalo sauces and even the extreme heat varieties if you're into that.  D-Spot even has dessert wings, like Reese's, and their Snacker wings that have a coating similar to a Snicker's.

My two personal favorites are their Hypocritical Blue and Hypocritical Ranch.  Other than the ranch on the ranch and the blue cheese on the blue, I can't tell you what other sauces are drizzled on, but the flavors are incredible.  As far as the hotter varieties go, you're not just getting heat, you're getting plenty of flavor.  I have yet to eat wings at another restaurant and be more impressed than I have with the offerings at D-Spot.

If you're into good chicken wings, the next time you're near the Twin Cities, I highly suggest checking them out.  We have even made the drive from Duluth just for their wings because they are that good, I promise they are worth the trip.  You can see more photos of their place and more pictures of their wing offerings on the D-Spot Facebook Page.
