Duluth City Officials Issue Advisories For Roads, Canal Park Ahead Of Storm
As this week's winter storm looms, officials with the City of Duluth are advising the public of a few storm-related items everyone should be aware of. In a release on Wednesday afternoon, three different points of emphasis were shared with the public.
The first is in relation to snow removal, and a reminder about following parking rules to help expedite the snow removal process. They say city plows and graders are in service, and will begin snow removal as early as 2a.m. on April 11th, 2019. To allow for snow to be removed effectively, the city would like to remind residents to observe alternate parking signs and No Parking areas between 2:00 – 6:00 am.
The second note is asking the public to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm. Prior to this storm showing up in the forecast, city crews have been removing residual salt and sand from roadways, which means roads could be especially slippery when compared to mid-winter storms, when roads have a residual coating of salt and sand that helps make roads more passable.
Finally, city officials discourage the public from traveling to the Lakewalk or Canal Park to watch the waves expected to accompany this storm. These powerful waves could cause damage and cause debris to come ashore. Along with these and other safety concerns, there is a possibility of shoreline flooding that could impact Canal Park and areas on Park Point. This could lead to impassable roads or road closures, which is why traveling to these areas is not advised during the storm.
The city does recommend anyone interested in viewing the waves to watch them from the safety of their homes via webcams at http://www.visitduluth.com/livecam/.
