It looks like March is going down in the record books! Well, it looks like one March day for sure is going down in them.

The Duluth area and surrounding Northland broke records on Tuesday (March 9th) thanks to a nice, warm day that was a far cry from what we saw the month prior.

According to several media outlets, including WDIO Chief Meteorologist Justin Liles, Duluth hit a record high of fifty-five degrees on Tuesday, breaking the record high for the date by one degree.

Several other areas, like Ashland, Hibbing and beyond, also broke the record for their high temperatures that day. Take a closer look at those details below:

Wow! The National Weather Service of Duluth also echoed this sentiment, sharing the exciting news on their Twitter account Tuesday.

As mentioned above, this was a far cry from what we saw the month before. February brought us a prolonged cold snap, which lasted about three-hundred hours from start to finish. We should mention all those hours were consecutive, by the way.

While we can't officially count out winter in the Northland just yet, the Old Farmer's Almanac is forecasting a nice, mild March for the most part. According to their predictions, we may see periods of snow at times but nothing intense or damaging.

As for the National Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center, they say we can expect warmer-than-average temperatures for this time of year. They are also forecasting higher precipitation totals than usual.

All I can say is that I hope this is the first of many record-breaking warm days in our future this March.
