The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning the public about some dog food with potentially fatal levels of aflatoxin.

Several food products manufactured by Midwestern Pet Foods are under investigation by the FDA and the Missouri Department of Agriculture for fatal levels of aflatoxin, "a toxin produced by the mold Aspergillus flavus, which can grow on corn and other grains used as ingredients in pet food."

The FDA says that it is aware of at least 28 deaths and 8 illnesses from dogs that ate the food. Dog that may be poisoned from the food may experience sluggishness, loss of appetite, vomiting, jaundice, and/or diarrhea.
