The work will only happen for one day, but officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation expect it to have major impacts on traffic along North Shore Drive.  On Tuesday, June 7, road construction crews will be on site at the Stewart River Bridge on Highway 61.  That site work will necessitate the closure of the highway for longer-than-usual stretches of time

Between the hours of 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM, Minnesota Department of Transportation work crews will be beam setting for the new Highway 61 Stewart River Bridge.  In order for those beams to be set in place, Highway 61 will be reduced to a single lane from the south end of the work zone to the County Road 3 intersection, managed by flaggers.

According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, a total of five beams will need to be set in place.  During each of the beams delivery and placement, traffic will be stopped in both directions for up to ten minutes to accommodate the work crews.

For now, MNDOT officials fully expect the work to be wrapped up within the time frame they have suggested.  However - like many outdoor road construction projects - that timetable is subject to potential delays caused by the weather or other factors.
