Dear God: Would You Try Eggo-Nog or any of These Other Alcoholic Atrocities?
You're right - I shouldn't judge something I haven't tried, but just the thought of Eggo-flavored liqueur leaves me a little queasy and light-headed. Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD. But yes, I would try Eggo-Nog Sippin Cream on a dare, and odds are you would too.
Why the rush to infuse alcohol into some of our favorite foods? No idea - maybe it's just hyper-competition, breaking through all the noise and clutter - trying to come up with an idea that will go viral and have bring fans back to your brand?
But yes, Kellogg's Eggo Waffles (which I grew up with and have fond memories of..."Let Go Of My Eggo!") teamed up with Sugarland's Distilling Company in Gatlinburg, Tennessee to create this creamy concoction. "It's really heavy on deep flavors of churned cream, and cinnamon and nutmeg, which we feel pair really well with that perfectly toasted Eggo waffle" Sugarlands Master Distiller Greg Eidam told Food & Wine and reviews have been generally favorable.
It appears to be part of a trend. I love Arby's but I'm not sure about Arby's Curly Fry infused Vodka. But yes, if push came to shove I would probably try a shot or two. Does it pair well with actual curly fries? That could make for an interesting experiment down at the local bar.
Not to be outdone, Frito Lay took a no-nonsense approach to vodka flavored by their unique potatoes. Created in partnership with Portland, Oregon's Eastside Distilling, Lay's Vodka is made with a blend of Portland Potato Vodka and vodka distilled from Lay's proprietary potatoes, which are drier and grainier than the Russets, Yukon Golds and Red potatoes found in local grocery stores, according to Food & Wine. OK, add that to my never-ending list to try.
Hey Wisconsin, not sure about whiskey, but beer-infused cheese? Someone may want to get on that project ASAP. What can possibly go wrong? I would definitely try the Glen Scotia 15 Whisky Mature Cheddar from The Farmer's Daughter. Oh yeah...
I am less enthused about gin & tonic popcorn made with 5% real Gin and 5% real Tonic, according to Joe and Seph's Popcorn. Although it would be fun to break this out when no one is suspecting and watch the expressions on their faces.
In Japan, Nestle launched sake-infused Kit Kat Bars, which has me scratching my head in horror. Another sign of the pending apocalypse. I doubt you'll be able to track this delicacy down here in the US, and thank God for that.
Life is all about getting outside your bubble and trying new things, while not endangering yourself, or anyone else. Would you try any of the boozy treats on this list?
Remember, you can do anything once.
