It has almost been two months since the Vikings last took the field, and it has been three weeks since America last saw a football game, and people all around the country are having withdrawals.

Hopefully this article can at least give you some football excitement that hopefully will hold you over until the NFL Combine this weekend....(insert sarcasm here).

With the NFL draft just two months away, and the begging of free agency just a few weeks away here are some key things the Viking need to address this off season if they hope to get back the play offs and maybe, just maybe take away the division crown from the Green Bay Packers.

    Resign Percy Harvin

Why would any "sane" Viking fan want to trade away Harvin? Should I remind you that eight weeks into the season Harvin, not Adrian Peterson was the top candidate for the MVP award? Should I remind you that when Harvin went down we became a one dimensional offense? We need Harvin more then Harvin needs the Vikings. Harvin is a stud, he is a play maker, and yes he is a pre-madona but still why trade away your best receiver when your teams BIGGEST need is a receiver? So stop with this trade Harvin crap. The Vikings need to resign him in order to continue towards their ultimate goal which is winning a Super Bowl.

    Bring in a Wide Reciver

First of all I want to say sorry about my rant on Harvin, but the Vikings second thing that needs to be done is bring in a receiver that will compliment Harvin like a Dwayne Bowe, or Greg Jennings, but do not bring in Mike Wallace, because Wallace and Harvin are the same type of player, and the Vikings need a "deep" threat unlike Jerome Simpson, to be able to open up their offense, and let AP run loose.

    Resign Jerome Felton/ Phil Loadholt

This one is plain, and simple and I really do not need to go in-depth about this one, but I will just refresh all you out there that might have forgotten about Peterson amazing season where he was just nine yards away from Eric Dickerson's record, and not to mention he did that coming back from ACL surgery. AP is a freak; and his work ethic is off the charts, but let's not forget who was blocking for him. Felton came out of know where, and became a pro-bowl player, and became one of the best full backs in Vikings history in just one season, and let's not forget about the big right tackle Phil Loadholt. Loadholt looked great this season, he has never missed a game in his career, and protected Christian Ponder very well this season. It comes down to this when you buy a house you need great insurance, and if you want Ponder to succeed in the NFL you need to give him protection which Loadholt does, and bringing back Felton just gives AP some more help in trying to become the best running back in NFL history.

    Draft a Defensive Tackle

Kevin Williams is 32, and is showing signs of slowing down, and not only is Williams getting older Jared Allen is soon to be 31, and Brian Robinson is almost 30, so the D-line for the Vikings, which you used to be one of the most feared lines in all of the NFL is starting to show signs of age. With the late first round pick, the Vikings can look into drafting Sheldon Richardson out of the University of Missouri or Sylvester Williams out of UNC; both would give a big boast for the Vikings at the D-tackle position.

Bring in a compenient back up Quarterback

We all remember how horrible Joe Webb was in Green Bay last month, so I won't bring that back up, except that we all know now that Webb is not a back up quarterback in this league. I am not saying that if the Vikings had a back up like Kyle Orton that would have made any difference, because the Packers were just a better team then the Vikings last year. But for the Vikings to have a ligament shot at a Super Bowl they need a plan B at quarterback, someone who will push Ponder, and if Ponder can not get the job done; then we can move on during the season like the San Fransisco 49ers did this season. First of all Joe Falcco will not be a free agent so all you hoping that the Vikings land him  the odds are slim to none, and if you think Alex Smith would look good in purple; the Vikings do not want to trade for him because he wants to be a starter, and the Vikings are fully behind Ponder. Instead look for quarterbacks like Orton, Jason Campbell. Those quarterbacks have shown that they can start in the NFL, and can push a young quarterback. Orton would be the perfect back up quarterback for the Vikings, but it wouldn't surprise me if the Vikings drafted a quarterback in the latter rounds just to show Ponder that he could lose his job at any moment.
