If you're a space nerd like me, you've already seen these movies. But hey, we like watching these space classics again and again. You probably already own a few of them.

It's part of an ad campaign by MRO Electric and Supply. They're an industrial equipment supplier and they're fascinated about the automation processes used in space both now and in the future. They're looking for someone who can watch 12 movies all in one month. You only have a few days left to enter the contest.

Once they pick an applicant, that person will have to watch the movies by December 23, 2021. They'll also have worksheets for each movie, and your responses on the worksheet will be featured in an article on MRO's website.

There's no entry fee, and all you need to be is 18 years old and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to apply.

What are the movies? Glad you asked:

  • 2001: A Space Odyssey
  • The Martian
  • Interstellar
  • Moon
  • Proxima
  • Passengers
  • Hidden Figures
  • Apollo 13
  • First Man
  • The Right Stuff
  • Gravity
  • October Sky

It's basically the movies that capture the serious space exploration topics. It's not sci-fi like other galaxies from far away like Star Wars. The list doesn't even feature far-future concepts like Star Trek.

In fact, one of my favorites on that list is October Sky, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a young aspiring rocket scientist who doesn't settle for being a coal miner when growing up.

Another hidden gem is Moon. It stars Sam Rockwell and it's a fantastic and somewhat terrifying picture of the future. It's really well done!

Of course, there are movies from big blockbusters like Interstellar, The Martian, and more. This isn't a tough list of movies to get through for those interested in space. It would be a cakewalk.

So if you think you have the right stuff (see what I did there?), make sure to apply A.S.A.P!
