Here's another thing 2020 has thrown our way: a snowy, record-breaking October!

If you think we've seen more snow this October than in years past, it is not in your head. It turns out this is officially the snowiest October on record in Duluth. KBJR News reported this fact after yet another snowfall on Thursday (October 22nd) night, writing the following:

Ha! What makes this even crazier is the fact that we aren't even to the end of October yet so there is potential to add even more snow to the monthly total.

As of now, less than one-tenth of an inch is separating us from the first snowiest October on record and the second, which happened in 2017.

Wow! We will have to wait and see what the rest of October holds and if we add more snow to that total list.

We have already seen a few rounds of snowfall this month, as evidenced by the fact that we have had a record-breaking October in terms of snow. Our first round of moderate snow fell on Tuesday, October 20th. We saw about six inches in Duluth with locally higher amounts in other parts of the Northland. That snow also resulted in hundreds of spinouts and crashes across the state.

As for what the rest of the winter holds, the National Weather Service of Duluth says we should see mild temperatures but with outburst of arctic air. They are also predicting above average snowfall. Buckle up! It's going to be a long winter.

UPDATE: The National Weather Service of Duluth also weighed in on this fact on their Facebook page Saturday (October 24th), calling this the second snowiest October in Duluth history. They state that it may be the first snowiest, depending on how far you go back in the record books.
