BIG 10 + Pac-12 Opt Out Of Fall Season, Possibly Playing Spring
The BIG 10 made it official and the Pac-12 soon followed behind. Football will not be played this fall for either conference.
According to Yahoo! Sports, both conferences are looking at playing in the spring. This will make it busy for all sports. Many of the high school, college, and pro sports are electing to move their season to the Spring.
Wink news said that not only did the Pac-12 cancel football, but it canceled every sport until January 1st, and that included basketball. Students wanted to play the season and Minnesota Gopher fans were excited for this year, the football team was rated 18th in the nation in the preseason poll.
The Salt Lake City Newspaper said that college sports in the Pac-12 have played through world wars and even 9-11. This is the first year that the major college sports won't play. This will really affect all the schools with the money they collect from TV coverage and fans that fund other smaller sports. This may lead to small sports not having a season either. That's a big IF they play.
Yahoo! Sports is saying the ACC may be soon to follow. They have been watching this play out. The Pac-12 and BIG 10 play in the Rose Bowl together so it seems to be a good decision to follow each other.
