REPORT: Minnesota Wild Name Bill Guerin New General Manager

A couple weeks removed from the firing of Paul Fenton, the Minnesota Wild have reportedly found a new general manager. Multiple sources are reporting that former NHL player and Penguins assistant GM Bill Guerin will be tapped to take over after Fenton was let go.

While the team has not formally announced the move as of the time of this publication, Michael Russo with The Athletic is reporting the news (paywall), as well as NHL Network analyst Kevin Weekes are saying sources close with the team say Guerin is their guy.

Guerin was drafted by the New Jersey Devils 5th overall in the 1989 NHL Draft, and played in the NHL from 1991 to 2010 for the Devils, Edmonton Oilers, Boston Bruins, Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues, San Jose Sharks, New York Islanders, and Pittsburgh Penguins. He was part of two Stanley Cup Final Championship teams, winning with the Devils in 1995 and Penguins in 2009.

Since his playing days, he has worked in player development and as an assistant GM for the Penguins.

Guerin follows Paul Fenton, who was fired after just one season with the team. Fenton was reportedly let go following a series of controversial trades and clashes with team culture.
