They also mention that there are other needs for repair on the van, and you can donate money via their pay pal to help out. It's nice when good things come from good people following an unfortunate circumstance.

The theft/vandalism occurred sometime over New Years weekend at the Douglas County Humane Society which is located at 138 Moccasin Mike Rd, Superior, WI. Catalytic converters are a part of the exhaust system of a vehicle. They are designed to help filter out and convert toxic gases to less harmful emissions. They contain precious metals like platinum, palladium, and rhodium. According to this article from Allstate.com, they can fetch $200 at a scrap yard.

Thieves generally replace them by using a saw to cut them off of the exhaust line. It's a quick process and thieves can snatch one in just minutes if they know what they are doing. Repair costs can be in the thousands of dollars to replace. There have been efforts in some parts of the country to try to get scrap yards to require identification or other measures to deter theft.

Unfortunately in this case, the humane society is now left without a functioning van. They use the van for transporting animals to and from veterinarian appointments. If you have any information you can reach out to the Superior Police Department by calling 911. You can also directly call the Douglas County Humane Society at 715-398-6784.
