Friday the 13th is known for being a very spooky day where you are supposed to avoid ladders, black cats and broken mirrors.

Whether you are superstitious or not, you can't deny that it is pretty fun to think about different superstitions. They are usually wacky and weird and if nothing else, will give you a good laugh.

I decided to do some research and come up with a list of what I think are the five weirdest superstitions out there for Friday the 13th. They range from salt to witches to haircuts. Take a look at the list below and try to avoid any and all of the superstitions mentioned. Ha!

By the way - this Friday the 13th is extra special and spooky because there will be a rare harvest moon tonight. You can see it best around 11:35 p.m. If you go out to catch it AND watch Friday the 13th, you'll be all set.

    Haircuts

If you have an appointment to get a little haircut, you probably want to reschedule. According to superstition, if you cut your hair on this spooky day, someone in your family will pass away. That's pretty intense.

    Trips And Travel

If you have had a trip planned or are planning for the future, make sure it doesn't fall on a Friday the 13th. If you do, superstition says you will only encounter misfortune the entire time, which kind of takes away from the fact that you're supposed to be enjoying yourself on vacation!

    Beds

This is a great reason to avoid having to do laundry: you shouldn't change your sheets on a Friday the 13th or you will have nightmares the entire night. You should also get into bed on the same side you got out of it. This all sounds like a great reason to be lazy if you ask me!

    Calendars

Make sure to change the date on your calendar or else a witch will come kill you the very next day. If you have a calendar that requires ripping off today's date each night, make sure you add that task to the top of your to-do list. Ha!

    Salt

Yup - you read that right. Salt. If you are at dinner with your friends and one of them wants the salt, make sure you don't hand it to them directly. Instead, place the salt shaker right on the table in front of them. If you hand it to your friend normally, you will get into a fight with them or two other people at the table. (This is an Italian superstition but I'd like to think it holds true here, too!)
