St. Louis County Hosts Meeting About Morris Thomas Road Project
Officials with St. Louis County and the City of Duluth are working to get the word out about an upcoming meeting scheduled to detail the work that's planned for Morris Thomas Road. The meeting date has been set for Thursday, February 25 at 6:00 PM. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the meeting will happen virtually, with a provided link for the general public to access it.
The work - scheduled to occur between Haines Road and Piedmont Avenue - will span two summer road construction seasons. Work on the project will commence in 2022 and will wrap up at the end of the road construction season in 2023. The initial part of the road project will be fulfilled by the City of Duluth - with utility replacements; that work is expected to comprise the entire first year of the scheduled project. In 2023, St. Louis County will take over the project, fully-reconstructing the roadway. Morris Thomas Road will be closed to all through-traffic during both summer road construction season.
Working together, the City of Duluth and St. Louis County have arranged his project to complete a variety of necessary tasks for the roadway. Primarily, the work is neede due to aging underground utilities and deteriorating pavement, curbs, and gutters.
During the meeting coming up on February 25, county officials will include details about the projects proposed design, construction impacts, and the scheduled timeline. There will also be a session of questions and answers along with an opportunity to leave comments.
