The University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs will have a new face in net next season as Sophomore Kasimir Kaskisuo has signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization. Kaskisuo will be signing a two-year entry contract that is effective for the start of the 2016-17 season. Yet, Kaskisuo will be hopefully suiting up for the Toronto Marlies this weekend. The Marlies are the American Hockey League affiliate of the Maple Leafs, and Kaskisuo will be heading there to gain some experience before the season ends.

Kaskisuo will be missed here in Duluth, as he was a rock in the net for the Bulldogs. It’s never fun losing a guy who was in the top ten nationally for goals against average at 1.92, which was also the second best GAA in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference to Cam Johnson of the University of North Dakota. The Vantaa, Finland native started 75 out of a possible 80 games while he suited up for the Bulldogs in his two seasons here.

Kaskisuo was quoted in the Duluth News Tribune saying how much he appreciated his time at UMD. “UMD has given me two awesome years and time to develop, but now I feel like the opportunity is there and it’s time to take the next step and develop even more at a higher level.”
Bulldog fans might notice another familiar goalie with the Toronto Marlies, as Alex Stalock is also on the roster. Stalock was a goalie for the Bulldogs from 2006-09 and was known for not being afraid to play the puck outside of his crease.
