Carlton County Residents and members of the Fon du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa can sign up for a limited amount of COVID-19 vaccines to be administered at Black Bear Casino. The vaccination event will take place on Thursday from 9am-3pm at Black Bear Casino. The Carlton County Public Health and Human services announced on Monday that they have received 500 first time doses of the Moderna vaccine. Eligible people can register for a vaccination.

According to The Pine Journal, those eligible include anyone who is 18 and older and is also a Fon Du Lac enrollee or a household member including non-native households. First and second generation descendants of a Fon Du Lac Enrollee also including non-Native Americans. Also, employees and house hold members of Fon du Lac are eligible.

People living in the Fon du Lac Band Service area are also eligible for a vaccination if they are and enrolled member of a U.S. federally recognized tribe or a household member, a descendant of another tribe, or a Canadian Indigenous person.

Residents of Calrton County 18 and older will also be eligible, however they may prioritize higher risk populations to get the vaccine first.

As of March 30, Carlton County has had 3,122 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 51 deaths. Vaccination data was not available for Carlton County. Health officials are concerned about rising cases in the State of Minnesota and more contagious variants spreading. The race to vaccinate is on, with more doses becoming available in the state to more eligible groups.
